At Paige Kunkle Designs, joie de vivre comes with the territory. A full-service interior design studio, PKD creates richly layered homes with a strong sense of place, an equally strong point of view, and a little room for the unexpected. Because for PKD, the magic is always in the mix.

Each project takes its cues from its surroundings, drawing on the architecture, history, landscape, and culture that give it character. An antique might sit alongside something decidedly modern, an exuberant pattern might turn up where you least expect it, or a beautiful material might be given the space to do all the talking. The mix is thoughtful, with a few surprises thrown in for good measure.

Meet Paige
Paige Van Rensselaer Kunkle knows a thing or two about living well. Born and raised in Laguna Beach, California, she believes a beautiful home should be lived in. Imagine doors flung open, flowers cut from the garden, a fabulous dinner underway, and a cocktail close at hand. Her distinctly California sensibility, paired with a passion for exploring the world, shapes an eye for craftsmanship, color, architecture, and the art of living.

Paige’s path to interiors began, fittingly, with flowers. She launched her career in floral and garden design in 1990, creating for high-profile clientele and helping shape the growing topiary industry. Flowers sharpened her instincts for color, scale, texture, and composition, but soon her eye wandered beyond the arrangement to the room around it. Interiors were a natural next move.
Today, as founder and principal of Paige Kunkle Designs, she brings that same creative instinct to polished, layered homes with personality and ease. A multi-award-winning designer, Paige leads projects from ground-up residences to extensive renovations throughout California, across the United States, and in Mexico. Her design world is growing, too, with the opening of Casa PKD, her new showroom in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

For Paige, a room is only part of the story. For more than 15 years, she has designed custom furniture and furnishings, from upholstery and woodwork to lighting and metalwork, collaborating with artisans and specialty craftsmen around the world to create pieces as individual as the homes they inhabit. It all begins with discovering what excites her clients, what they collect, how they entertain, and how they really want to live. From there, the art is in creating a home that could belong to no one else.
